How can you provide smooth communication in multiple languages and sites?
During international events where participants are from different countries and speak different languages, interpreting plays a key role, especially if some participants join online. Smooth, real-time communication is not only an added benefit at such a complex event, but a basic condition. In this case study, we show how we used online simultaneous interpreting to facilitate a successful hybrid meeting of the European Works Council.
The challenge
The European Works Council, part of a multinational enterprise, holds a meeting twice a year to ensure the proper labor representation of its workers. Several subsidiaries from multiple countries take part in these meetings, bringing in different languages and cultural backgrounds. The group’s last meeting was conducted in hybrid form with some of the participants present on site and others joining online. The biggest challenge was to provide translation for every participant, regardless of where they joined from.
The solution
Our company offered an online simultaneous interpreting solution that guaranteed smooth communication for every participant.
This included:
- Providing a reliable online platform where every participant could choose their own language and follow the event in real-time
- Providing the necessary technical background with supervision
- Providing experienced and well-prepared simultaneous interpreters for all the language combinations needed
Five language pairs (German-Spanish, German-Portuguese, German-Hungarian, German-Czech, German-Polish) were needed for this event, requiring 10 professional interpreters to work in pairs in continuous exchange.
Participants on-site and online could follow the events the same way using their native language : with the help of a digital tool, headphones and the online platform.
